Following a string of new business wins with destinations like Aspen, CO; Colorado state; Oregon; and Tupelo, MS we’re pleased to announce that Matt Stiker has joined Destination Think as our Managing Director. His addition to the team is critical as we expand our innovative tourism marketing offerings within North America and beyond.

Matt brings with him a wealth of expertise in destination marketing. He was the first-ever Chief Marketing Officer for the San Francisco Travel Association, where he led efforts to rebrand, expand digital marketing, transform visitor experience services and bolster partnerships. Matt’s deep advertising agency and consultancy experience includes work with several other U.S. tourism brands such as Oregon and Washington states and Visit Seattle.

He also has long-standing experience leading global consumer advertising accounts at renowned international agencies such as Wieden & Kennedy, Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners, McCann Worldgroup, and Publicis. His client portfolio spans the likes of Coca-Cola, Microsoft, ESPN, Xbox, and Miller High Life.

At Destination Think, Matt will be working across our extensive client portfolio, which includes tourism boards in Bermuda, British Columbia, California, and Colorado. His appointment comes at a significant moment, as some parts of the world begin to reopen to travel. “This is a unique moment for any industry. To hit the reset button after being forced to stop business as usual. Our industry is starting again, taking stock of what has changed and how it should respond,” says Destination Think CEO Rodney Payne.

“Now is the time to rise to the occasion and commit to creating a more sustainable future for tourism. We know that Matt will be instrumental in helping us achieve long-term positive impacts for our clients and their destinations.”

“This role at this company is the perfect blend of the two professional worlds in which I’ve lived and the environmental area in which I’m most passionate,” says Matt.

“Much has been said about the world returning to “normal” once the pandemic is behind us. Before we arrive at any semblance of normal in the tourism industry, we first have to fundamentally re-evaluate our principles and practices to create a healthier planet and more sustainable way of doing business.

“We can no longer settle for business as usual. I’m excited to join at this significant moment and help Destination Think lead their clients to a future very different from the pre-pandemic “normal.”

Outside of the (virtual) office, Matt is a contributor to travel industry website Skift and has participated as a panellist at multiple tourism conferences, including the eTourism Summit and Connect Travel. He’s also a passionate conservationist, sitting on the Barrel Bag advisory board and driving organic social media campaigns to minimize trash on beaches, marshes, and roadways.
